We caught up with the electro-pop duo that go by the name of Pistol Shrimp recently. The two piece chatted to us about their new single, 'Taking Names', and it's video as well as a little on themselves.
1. Who are Pistol Shrimp?
Aaron: Pistol Shrimp are an electro-pop duo that originally started as a solo project by David. He met me through SoundCloud to do a collab, and after creating our first song together, 'Moonshine', we knew we had the potential to do some amazing stuff together and formerly became a duo.
2. You had success with your debut EP, 'Heart'. Tell us a little about this?
David: Yeah, it was our first EP that we had done together as a band. We had been working on it for quite a while and put a lot of effort into it, so getting it out and receiving a great response from fans and blogs was an awesome feeling. Also getting a bunch of super talented artists to remix our work was incredibly humbling.
Aaron: Kuma Films, an awesome video production company, used a remix of 'Heart' off the EP on one of their viral videos. That really helped get our name out there - check it out, it's called 'The REAL Lord of the Ring.'
3. Who are your biggest inspirations musically?
David: I take a lot of inspiration in my production from artists such as Passion Pit, M83, Miike Snow etc. I'm usually listening to a lot of different stuff while writing each song which can help influence the tracks production process.
Aaron: I really digs Vampire Weekend, David Bowie and a bunch of different electronic musicians that are found by chance on SoundCloud.
4. You've just released your new single, 'Taking Names', along with it's video. Tell us a little about this?
Aaron: We were so excited to get this video out there because Stefan Hollenbach, the creator and director, has an incredible talent. His concept for the video fit perfectly with what we see in our music - color, whimsy, imagination, and wonder. The shapes and patterns Stefan used mimic the album art of our EP created by James Tandy.
David: We got a few more videos up our sleeves so keep your eyes peeled for those
5. What's next for Pistol Shrimp?
David: Of course, more music... but the end goal for us is really to play live shows and/or go on tour. The real challenge in that is I live in the UK and Aaron is in the US.
Aaron: We are working on a plan to meet up within this year and figure out an
amazing live set, with a full band complete with a light show.
Big thanks to Pistol Shrimp for the interview.
