Introducing... Brown Brogues

We caught up with Manchester based duo Brown Brogues this week. The Lou Reed inspired two piece have been earning themselves more than a few plaudits for their lo-fi and catchy alternative numbers and after recently releasing their new single, 'You Don't Know', alongside it's video, we felt it was time to get in touch with them.

1. Who are Brown Brogues?

Brown Brogues is 2 men in their mid twenties Mark and Ben who have a strong bond made from love or hate (neither one is sure which) for over 13 years as friends, 4 years as Brogues.

2. Who are your biggest inspirations musically?

Biggest musical inspiration has gotta be Lou Reed he was a perfect artist. John Dwyer, Ty Segall and Black Lips are also important too without these this band wouldnt exist.

3. You've recently released the video to your new single, 'You Don't Know', tell us a little about this?

Yeah well the idea of playing some live music to kids has been floating around for a while with little hope of achieving it. Until by chance at a Sex Hands show a friend who had recently become a teacher as if BB would play in front of a class of children.

As a new part of musical education they need to see different forms of music including rock music. So we played a show for the kids and the head teacher and they loved it so we asked if we could make a video of it and they said yeah and the result is naturally what happened. Quite a few people have asked me if its fake like we mimed to some pop music like one direction which is a bit cheeky. These kids were so receptive to it and just enjoyed it. Best crowd we've ever played to. Best dancers too. Even drunk people don't let go and just enjoy live music they still wanna look cool.

4. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

Probably dead or drunk...Or dead drunk

Ben had a dream once that whilst on tour we played some seaside town and I got drunk and stole a boat he tried to stop me but ended up coming with me and drowning but I survived. I like to think of that as less of a dream and more of a premonition.

5. What's next for Brown Brogues?

We have a few more shows coming up this year in Manchester including our Christmas party at the castle on the 20th December and writing the next record it's gonna be heeeaaavvvvvvyyyyyy.

Huge thanks to Brown Brogues for the interview.
