We're taking a trip down memory lane this week with our 'Track of the Week', travelling back 10 years to 2004 when Canadians, Arcade Fire, released their iconic debut, 'Funeral'.
The record, produced by 'A group of nerds messing around with instruments', went on to become an indie sensation, changing the entire perception of modern day indie music to something that actually is, quite good. We've all heard 'Wake Up', and as brilliant as it is, our personal favourite has to be 'Rebellion (Lies)', a legendary five minutes of ever-buliding, relaxingly powerful, chorus belting and mentally soothing music. It begins softly with the ever-present bass tune that intertwines with the slowly increasing in magnitude drum and piano beat until incorporating a couple guitars in there too and then erupting into the moment Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, Will Butler, Jeremy Gara, Tim Kingsbury and Sarah Neufeld each scream the iconic chorus of, "Everytime you close your eyes, LIES, LIES!".
The chorus, repeats itself until the point it's drilled into your head and you're mentally forced to belt it out in sync with Win and co. 'Rebellion (Lies)' soon reaches it's peak at which sees the Canadians draw it to a close with endless "Oooh's", at which point you subconsciously press 'Re-play', and again, and again, and again etc. 'Rebellion (Lies)' could possibly be our most favourite Arcade Fire song, and if it weren't for the legend of "Woah Oh" from 'Wake Up', we're pretty much all but sure it'd be yours too.
