Introducing... Moats

We caught up with Indie four-piece, Moats, this week. The quartet, originating from Biggleswade, Liverpool and Leeds are becoming quite a hit within the indie scence, due to their effortless souding riffs within their powerful yet peaceful tracks.

1. Who are Moats?

Moats are a mould of four great buddies:

Matthew Duncan

James Pyrah

Will Elliott

Nathan Price

Three of us originally met at the John Henry Newman school in Stevenage where there was another band formed. Matthew (frontman) was desperate to be in the band somewhere so decided to start helping James (guitarist) out with his paper round.

Soon after Matthew got him into his room and started playing guitar to him. 2 weeks later it was decided that Matthew would be the frontman of a new band called Kenetics (despite Moats being the original name idea). Things then got a lil bit messy with that band and it was decided to go back to the band original instinct. Our old drummer left and we now have a new power house called Nathan who we are more than happy with. We believe we have the final line up for "Moats".

2. Who are your biggest inspirations musically?

Each of us have separate inspirations and surprisingly I'd say that most of them aren't even musically, especially when it comes to lyrics. I tend to write about honest things that are going on in my brain at that moment whether it be battling something within or out. It's great to see people relate. Musically however, I'd say lbands such as The Cure and Radiohead.

3. You're releasing your new EP, 'Rough', next month, tell us a little about this?

This EP is without a doubt the most honest piece of music we have written to date. When practicing it you can see our faces scrunching up with some strange feeling we never thought was possible to portray through playing music.

4. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

Hopefully we see people appreciating our music enough to come and watch us play and support us when recording new material.

Big thanks to Moats for the interview.
