Introducing... The Jacarandas

We caught up with Birmingham based band, The Jacarandas, this week. The indie band, of which includes Jack Parker of Amazing Radio, have just released their debut single, 'Watergun', on Soundcloud and were up for a quick chat about it as well as a little on themselves.

1. Who are The Jacarandas?

John: We're a band from Brum. I sing and play the guitar, Jack plays bass and Hamish pounds the drums.

Jack: Hamish is our brand spanking new drummer. We got him on board because when John met the guy; he thought Hamish was going to kill him. We now call Hamish 'The Squeeze'; he'll put the squeeze on you if you aren't careful. He treats those drums like he treats his enemies; brutally.

2 You've just put a stream of your debut single, 'Watergun', on Soundcloud, tell us a little about this track?

John: I've had that song for four years now so it's great to finally have it recorded...also a slight relief. It's a love song for when it's pissing it down.

Jack: I saw John play 'Watergun' with the first incarnation of The Jacarandas at One Beat Weekender in Birmingham way back when in Summer 2012. I fell head over heels in love with his song-writing. I didn't see him again until later in 2012. He stumbled out of Birmingham club Snobs grinning his head off.

I couldn't chat to him though because my then girlfriend at the time was having a right go at me outside of Snobs. I then didn't see John again until the Summer of 2013 when he stumbled into Birmingham club TALK grinning his head off again. I was DJing the night. I asked him about The Jacarandas and he told me he was still writing music but the band was no more. I hassled him solidly for most of 2013 about him starting up The Jacarandas again. Finally in September 2013, when I was on tour with the band Jaws - I saw John again at the Manchester date of the tour. I spoke to him at great length about him bringing The Jacarandas back to life. The wheels started turning in early 2014 FINALLY. The wheels have also threatened to fall off at various points but we've glued them back on.

3. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

Jack: Everything happens for a reason. We'll make up the reasons as we go along.

4. What's next for The Jacarandas?

Jack: We support Real Estate and Alvvays at The Institute in Birmingham on Friday 24th October. Tickets for that show are pretty darn close to selling out. We are chuffed to bits to be playing alongside such incredible bands from Brooklyn and Toronto.

Huge thanks to The Jacarandas for the interview.
