Johnny Lloyd has earned himself his third 'Track of the Week' title from us after dropping his new track, 'Oldest Man On Earth', earlier this week. The former Tribes frontman's solo career appears to have taken off in spectacular fashion and after supporting The Kooks around Europe earlier this year, Johnny announced his debut solo tour this week of which includes a support date with Jamie T at Alexandra Palace. Following this announcment, Johnny unveiled his new single, 'Oldest Man On Earth', along with it's video.
'Oldest Man On Earth' could easily be mistaken for a track from Tribes' second album, 'Wish To Scream', with it's conistent and repetitive six string tune that intertwines with Johnny delevering the lyrics in a regretful and dampend manner before revealing to us that it's a "Sad song" in a way in which sounds as though there's 30 Johnny's screaming into one mic.
The over-toned nature of Johnny's sound has become a key feature within his solo work, giving the impression each track has been recorded on the first voice recorder ever made. But, he has managed to make something that would sound so dreadful in any other circumstance work and fit and the 'Oldest Man On Earth' is no exception. In an emotion filled ending Johnny asks the the 'Oldest Man On Earth', "What would you teach us, if you had the power?" before his clones sing along with him in the final belt of "Sad song" as the track draws to a close.
'Oldest Man On Earth' is another beautifully powerful and meaningful track from the Camden bred solo artist, of which promises a bright future for Johnny with his new project.
