Introducing... Clay

We had a chat with Leeds-based indie quartet Clay this week. The four piece from the Dales released their debut track, 'Sun Dance', to good appraise and with their second not so far away, the future's looking bright for the Yorkshire lads.

1. Who are Clay?

Clay are a four piece Leeds-based band consisting of Joe Harvey on Lead vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards, Jack Harvey on vocals, lead guitar and keyboards, Robert Gration on bass guitar, vocals and keyboards and Danny Armitage on drums and percussion.

2. Who would you say, musically, are your biggest inspiraions?

Musically, we don't consciously try to adhere to a certain style and our music is very much a subconscious product of the huge array of artists and genres that we listen to.

3. How would you describe your sound?

Without trying to sound evasive, it's quite difficult to define! Primarily, we write music that we enjoy so I'd say that we try and write songs that are interesting with particular focus on melody and rhythm. As we draw influences from contemporary physcedelia, we make music that combines that level of musicality with more accessible pop music.

4. Where do you see yourselves in five years time?

Naturally we want to be hugely successful and have a loyal fan base. Mainly, we want to be at a place musically that we are happy with. Pushing musical limits yet remaining accessible to huge quantities of people is what we are aiming for ultimately.

5. What's next for Clay?

We are due to record our next single 'Oxygen' in December to be released in January. This will coincide with our second UK tour in January/February and it will be also be released on 7" vinyl with an exclusive B-side.

Huge thanks to Clay for the interview.
