Introducing... Macatier

We caught up with Dan Brown this week, otherwise known as the upbeat solo artist Macatier. The Blink-182 and Radiohead inspired lone ranger released his third studio EP, 'The Boat Is Definitely Sinking', earlier this month. Though, it is clear his boat is most definitely not sinking due to the praise it has gained so far.

1. Who is Macatier?

My name is Dan and I am an 'upbeat-acoustic' musician. I started using a musical pseudonym because I liked the idea of having music released under a different name and it just stuck from there. Some of my music is just myself and an acoustic guitar, whereas other songs are a full band sound!

2. You released your third EP, 'The Boat Is Definitely Sinking', on December 8th. Tell us a little about this?

I wrote and recorded it myself in a little studio in the Hampshire countryside over summer 2014.

A lot of things had changed in the past year for me. I'd graduated uni, had moved to a few different places and was unsure what to do with myself; this EP was written as a result.

3. Who are your biggest inspirations musically?

I grew up totally obsessed with Blink-182 and pop-punk, but in recent years I've hugely gotten into alt-rock like Brand New, Radiohead and Manchester Orchestra. Although when I was writing 'The Boat Is Definitely Sinking', I found myself listening to a lot of Say Anything and Reuben.

4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I hope to be making albums, playing in more places (hopefully abroad) and to of course, more people.

5. What's next for Macatier?

What's next is to spend most of 2015 playing shows and performing to as many people as possible. I usually gig very frequently and making this EP took up a lot of time, so it'll feel good to get back to playing live again.

Huge thanks to Macatier for the interview.
