Having first been introduced to The Jackobins earlier this year via their excellent self-titled debut EP, I’d been waiting to hear more from this excellent band.
‘Ghosts’ has four tracks, including a second version of the anthem ‘Prussia’, which has to be one of my favourite tracks of 2014.

‘The Otherside’ and ‘She Always Said’ both feature memorable choruses, and, whilst not as strong as ‘Prussia’ in my opinion, are both staples of the band’s live set for obvious reasons. Currently, however, it is the title track ‘Ghosts’ which is racking up so many hits on YouTube. It shows the band in a softer, more plaintive mood, whilst still maintaining the accomplished indie rock sound their fans know and love.Vocalist Dominic Bassnett gives one of his finest performances yet, the lyrics showcasing his extensive range and vocal expression. The rest of the band keep the mood perfectly with the track gathering momentum from the subtle keyboard intro to the impassioned body of the track, before sliding back towards a softer finale. The band have moved away from the rougher-edged sound found on their earlier tracks, and the new sophistication is evident. The recent sold-out launch gig for the EP could well become the norm for a band who put real feeling into the music they produce. Overall, the EP is well worth a listen. Nothing but good indie rock well played.
If you like a bit of solid rock sophistication, these boys might well be the ones to see you through 2015.
