We caught up with The Assist this week, an indie quartet based in Walsall who are cooking up a definitive sound that has seen their prescence grow to new strengths of late. Having recently performed with the legendary Slade at their Christmas party gig, The Assist have been heavily assisted via their local BBC Introducing, which has seen their sound reach plenty more ears accross the nation. With 2015 now upon us, we tip The Assist to have great success. Their Jamie T gritty pop style and approach has gone down a storm thus far, and we see no end in it doing so.
1. Who are The Assist?
We’re an indie / britpop quartet from Walsall. Our music is an adventure of energetic guitar riffs, funky bass lines and punchy drums to create sing along anthems and in your face upbeat melodies.
2. Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
In terms of bands we’d probably say Blur and The Streets, our music is more inspired by everyday scenarios and the world around us; we’re young but experienced and have got a lot to write about.
3. You released your debut track, 'The Assist', and it's video to much appraise. Tell us a little about this?
The track is about life in the band and how our fans always deliver in creating atmosphere’s our gigs are well known for. The video was just about getting everyone together and having a laugh just as much as it was about portraying the song’s meaning.
4. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
In 5 years time we hope to of all retired after the success of our debut album.
5. What's next for The Assist?
We’re playing our biggest headline show to date at The Slade rooms in Wolverhampton on the 21st of February then we’re going to follow this up with a full UK tour and hopefully lots of festival slots in the summer.
Big thanks to The Assist for the interview.
