Do you like 60’s music? If you do, ‘The Trip’ is psychedelia at its best.
This is the music of hedonism - gutsy, heavy, sexy and hip. 60’s music had a particular sound, not too engineered, not too formulaic and just a little rough around the edges.
The Black Delta Movement’s newest single evokes the atmospheric ethos of that time perfectly, whilst managing to provide something fresh and contemporary. ‘The Trip’ is a cover of a track first brought out in 1966. If anything, I prefer this to the original Kim Fowley version. In places the music is spare, in places sumptuous, always evocative. The guitar playing is un-sanitised, as all real rock guitar should be, giving real feeling to the music. The vocals are perfect and continue the vibe, raw enough to match the music, but sophisticated enough to give the lyrics tone and meaning. The track changes tempo throughout, the quieter sections giving pause and definition before the music builds to a final crescendo of sound.
If you prefer The Doors to The Beatles, and are more musically attuned to The 13th Floor Elevators than to Pink Floyd, then you should enjoy this latest offering from The Black Delta Movement. Just put your head back and let the music flow through the sensual pathways of your mind.
