Introducing... Cannibal Animal

We caught up with the melodically hardcore, power pulsating trio Cannibal Animal this week. Born and bred in the City of Culture, the Cannibals are aiming to get their gritty sound out to the people of Hull before taking over the UK, and if their debut track 'Pavement Jungle' is anything to go by, it could be quicker than first expected.

1. Who are Cannibal Animal?

Cannibal Animal are Luke Ellerington on vocals and guitar, Jamie Hanson on bass and Thomas Gibbins on drums.

2. Who are your biggest musical influences?

Our musical influences... we could go on forever but we take bits and pieces from all of our individual listening habits. We're all huge Nirvana fans and Steve Albinis production on a lot of the sub pop stuff is something we tried to get across to our producer Patrick Tobin to get that live, raw and powerful sound across and leave the feedback and abrasive sounds in there and he definitely did that. If we talked about influences we'd end up writing a fucking novel but leaving things raw is important to us. The post punk thing is definitely hiding in there somewhere too but we always like to have plenty of melody hidden behind the noise that's an important element.

3. How would you describe your sound?

Well put it this way if you had a first dance at a wedding with our accompanying music you'd be divorced by the end of the night laying in a dustbin.

4. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

Jamie will probably be hidden behind an even bigger beard by then so that all depends if we can find him.

5. What's next for Cannibal Animal?

Hopefully we'll build up a bit of a fan base here in Hull playing the local venues and then look to get out of the city to spread the Cannibal Animal word to the rest of the UK. We'll also be looking to get some more tracks recorded in the next few months and take over those filthy minds of yours.

Big thanks to Cannibal Animal for the interview.
