Already making waves in their native Glasgow, Roxy Agogo first entered the collective consciousness with little more than an atmospheric synth and guitar track touted on YouTube last spring.
‘When You Dress Up’ was quite s debut, and I was thankful it had come to my attention. Since then I have kept an eye on their progress, enjoying the follow-up track ‘Crocodiles’, with it’s desperate, tortured lyrics and high art choreographed video. Their mix of dishevelled, synth-based glamour with fractured post-punk overtones played a perfect part in my 2014 play list.
Roxy Agogo have something of the theatre about them. They like to keep an air of mystery, sometimes described as a one man outfit, sometimes as a band, it is obvious that the vocalist (Roxy himself, one might presume) is a man with his finger in a number of pies. In the last year there has been the production of the video for the WHITE track ‘Living Fiction’ and a sound track for the forthcoming film ‘The Waitress’, as well as the short-lived release of the track ‘Pink Performer’ on Soundcloud. Not bad for a band who hadn’t performed live until October 2014. I have yet to see Roxy Agogo, although I would dearly like to. Geography and time have not been on my side, as their live output has been restricted to Glasgow, as far as I know. I have thought of haranguing their good friends Baby Strange to bring them along when they stray across the Scottish border, but as yet this exchange has not taken place.
I can only hope that they will move further afield in 2015.
