Darlia - I've Never Been To Ohio - Reviewed

The latest output of the Blackpool quartet sees them favouring us with their usual grunge-psych vibe. The track features the repetitive, hypnotic chorus of the title, overlaying some good grunge style backing with a little muted keyboard thrown in for good measure. Nathan Day has the look of Kurt Cobain, and on this single he has something of the sound of him as well. The vocals are soft and understated enough to let the music through until the chorus where they rightfully take centre

stage. Sometimes a one line chorus can be annoying after a while, but this is delivered with enough variation and muted passion to carry it off.

The song is slower, more Nirvana-like than previous tracks such as ‘Napalm’. It might be a bit retro 90’s, but I liked it, especially the drumming. I felt this was a track where the rhythm section really came into their own, rather than just backing the vocals, adding real substance and interest to a track which could easily have been dominated by the lyrical content.
