This tune is a lot livelier and upbeat than the title might suggest. A post Britpop offering to brighten a dull, dreary February day, I felt sparklier than I had done for a while after listening to this tongue in cheek ditty about a particularly tiresome girlfriend. With their motto ‘Glitterness Not Bitterness’, and a fetching line in ladies and other exotic clothing, they sit comfortably on the fringe of modern Indie Pop, refusing to succumb to the existential angst so popular with a lot of acts who see it as the only way to be taken ‘seriously’.
As being taken ‘seriously’ can often be overrated and can lead to being seen as being up one’s own backside, I think Faerground Accidents might have a point. Feel good music as good as this should be taken for what it is, pure un-hyped enjoyment. Granted, it might never be regarded as a classic, but you never know as it’s catchy as hell. The slightly jangly guitar pop is a great backing for the strong vocals by Bomar Faery, surely one of the best monikers ever, but it was the lyrics I liked best. If you feel a little frothier than usual you could do a lot worse than this well produced, well written slice of ‘Psychotic Pop’ (their words not mine). A great antidote for the winter blues.
