We caught up with Hanging Tree this week, a grungy-blues band from Bristol. Their unique twist on grunge, combining intense rawness and jaw-dropping riffs with smooth, body-swaying melodies, has shown interest amongst those in their hometown, and an ever-increasing fan-base on Soundcloud and Twitter. With a new album on the way and an already released EP ‘Roots’, which screams edginess and textbook grunge, we expect big things ahead for this band.
1. Who are Hanging Tree?
Fred, Tom, Dan and Jack, a grungy-blues band from Bristol.
2. Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
We all have very different ones but we tend to just value people with fearless conviction and aspiration. We think you can hear that.
3. How would you describe your sound?
I think the most common words thrown around are ‘Dark’ and ‘Sexy’. So I think we’d describe our sound as Ainsley Harriot?
4. Your most recent upload to Soundcloud, 'Hopeless', has had over 1000 hits. Tell us a bit more about this track?
'Hopeless' is a bit of an uncomfortable track for us. Fred wrote it and then burst into tears when Tom sang it back in rehearsal. Tom then cried during the recording and Dan and Jack cried when they heard it played back. So it's got the better of all of us at some point.
5. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
Hopefully doing the same thing but on a bigger scale! Potentially looking a bit fatter.
6. What’s next for Hanging Tree?
We've got a lot of gigs lined up, an album recorded and being mixed and nothing better to do.
