Track of the Week #39 - Coves - Shot To The Wall

Leamington Spa duo Coves this week unveiled their new track, 'Shot To The Wall'. Its releasing providing a taster of what is to come from their new EP, 'Stormy'.

Whilst possessing a clear influx in style 'Shot To The Wall' still has that musky and rough edge Coves had become known for following the release of their debut album, 'Soft Friday'. Their prescence is still one of which is yet to be hyped about, for some un-forseen reason. Their emphatic shoegaze and synth fuelled appearance has yet earned its praise, but following the unveiling of 'Shot To The Wall' we believe all of this will change. It starts with a Bombay Bicycle Club - 'Feel' kind of opening, which soon merges in with tones like those from 'Soft Friday' as it shimmers its way through. All I can think is some kind of Arabian influence has gone into this track, and all as well as it fits in majestically. Lead singer Beck Wood soon signifies why the track is named what it is, repeating "Shot to the wall, I don't love you no more" in a vigorous chorus before the trigger is pulled and 'Shot To The Wall' fires off into a pyschedelic like frenzy, before petering out with those ever present words of the chorus.

It's certainly a good effort and return from the two-piece, there's still some work to be done to top the debut release of 'Soft Friday' but I am more than confident 'Stormy' will create a storm of its own and earn Coves the plaudits they deserve.
