We caught up with OSKAR this week, a five-piece from Fife. The indie/alternative group have recently released their new single, 'Wildings', and were up for a little chat about it and themselves. Introducing... OSKAR.
1. Who are OSKAR?
OSKAR are an alternative/indie rock band from Fife, Scotland.
Vocals - David Stevens
Guitar - Grant Allan
Guitar - Conor Young
Bass - Darren Hood
Drums - Andrew Davidson
2. How would you describe your sound?
Dramatic, sweeping, anthemic and LOUD. Joy Division meets The National who had an affair with Mogwai.
3. You've recently released your new single, 'Wildings', tell us a little about this track?
'Wildlings' came around after spending too much time watching Game of Thrones. I was late to the party to watch the series so had a lot to catch up on. I was fascinated by a particular relationship on the series which gave me the inspiration for 'Wildlings'.
4. Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
As there are five of us in the band, our musical inspirations vary. David is a huge fan of Elvis and Richard Hawley where as Andrew loves The Gaslight Anthem and The Killers. Personally I'm really into The National and Joy Division. I've also been listening to a lot of Brian Eno recently.
5. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
This is a tough one, I know exactly the answer my Dad would give to this question which would be in an office doing a regular nine till five job, however, I honestly think we'll be touring and doing some big shows. Probably still as a support band to an established artist but still grafting away. A decent slot at T in the Park would be ideal.
6. What's next for OSKAR?
We are currently touring the single 'Wildlings' then after that we are retreating back to the studio to record an ep, maybe even an album which we look to be putting out near the end of there year. Most probably early December.
7. Where can we hear more from you?
