Sheepy - 15 Songs In An Hour - Reviewed

I’m always sorry if I miss Sheepy when they come to Liverpool, because they do a great live set, so I was really looking forward to hearing the new demo album ’15 Songs in an Hour’. The title track is pure Sheepy, punk lo-fi at its best. When people talk about garage punk, I guess this what they mean, pure energy poured into the music by people who love what they do.

Sheepy

The vocals are fresh and punchy. The track is short and sharp, something The Ramones would have been happy to release back in the day. I liked the lyrical sentiments too. The words are something we could all take a lesson from; if you don’t succeed, brush it off, your real friends won’t care and no-one else matters. Musically, there is little new here, but it’s none the worse for that. Solid punk is always worth a listen and Sheepy throw music in your face the way all good punk bands do. I particularly liked the overlaying of vocals over the repetitive choruses. The track is a slap in the face to manufactured, plastic music produced to make money at the expense of creativity.

The album, ’15 Songs in an Hour’ is available on Bandcamp, featuring, you guessed it, 15 songs. At £4, the value for money here is incredible, so if you like your music on the short, sharp side, I can’t recommend this highly enough. If Sheepy gig in your town, catch them live, you won’t be disappointed. If I could write 15 songs in an hour that were this good I’d be dancing in the streets. Purchase it here.
