Editors offered their fans a rewarding challenge this week, giving them the opportunity to find their new release, which hid itself on a mysterious compilation record. The sooner it was found, the sooner everyone could hear it, and thanks to Erik Drost, who discovered it on the 'Play It Again Sam' sampler, Tom Smith and co could finally unveil what they've been working on over the past few months.
It's a slow, but building track. It's a synth-pop engineered time traveller, casting us back to the era of 'In This Light And On This Evening' in glorious fashion. It may not be as in your face and loud as some of the more-loved Editors tracks, but it still possesses a magnitude of brilliance. It begins with a quiet electro beat, that throughout the five minutes and 6 seconds of 'No Harm', grows and grows before it reaches a chilled but explosive ending as the five-piece create a spectacular shoegazing climax. I must admit, upon the first listen I weren't the biggest fan, but in just over a day my views have been transformed. It has grown on me majorly, and I simply cannot wait to hear more. Editors are the greatest live band I've seen to date, and if they venture out on tour later this year (fingers crossed), I expect this track to blow a few minds.
