Velour - Plush EP - Reviewed

Grimsby outlet Velour unveiled their debut EP, 'Plush', this week. Featuring the title track alongside 'Wannabe', 'Plush' possesses all the right ingredients to be a success.

First of all, the title track 'Plush'. It opens with a raw and gritty riff that really sets the tone for the song, after soon reaching harmony with a more melodic JAWS like backing guitar, lead singer Ben Ayres begins to vocalise with added strength. "Is this how it's meant to be?" are the words you'll soon be karaoke-ing along with as 'Plush' errupts into a volcanic-like ending. It's heavy, It's catchy, it certainly has the power to replay itself in your mind on its own accord.

The second and last track of the EP, 'Wannabe', is a much slower one. It still has that power, but it's portrayed in a more laid back manner. Once again there's clear influence within from Birmingham quartet JAWS, but this track along with the previous also screams Wolf Alice, Drenge and a bit of Peace as well. This must bode well for the four-piece, and if this EP finds itself playing to the right ears, Velour are in for a glistening future.

RIFFED's Rating: 8/10
