Judas - Love Is The Enemy - Reviewed + Interview

This week we caught up with London-based Judas, an indie rock band whose entrance was marked by their first track ‘Call Me’ being played on XFM.

I’ve been listening to their newest song ‘Love is the Enemy’, a powerful indie anthem carrying all the pop sensibilities of their stated influences. This is a track that glitzes in the Camden sunlight, with atmospheric guitar riffs and a passionate vocal delivery. With hints of stadium rock that are unexpected from a band so new to the scene, it’s clear that Judas really do mean business. Standing at a hefty 6:16, it’s fair to question a lack of variety throughout the song – there is no real progression as the track follows its familiar structure. That said, you’d struggle to get bored with such an emphatic chorus, featuring lyrics that resonate deeply, delivered blissfully by the band’s scouse frontman, John Clancy, whose voice is the real star of the show. Expect big things from Judas – they appear to be a force to be reckoned with, and there’s certainly an audience for their huge take on indie pop within London and beyond. Gigs around London and further afield have gained the four-piece quite an audience very quickly, with the likes of Peter Crouch and Tubes of Soccer AM singing their praises. Here is the transcript of a very formal, serious chat with Judas.

1. Who are Judas?

We are Judas! Hailing from different corners of England. Now in London having met at the end of Summer 2014. 4 Piece rock band.

2. What made you want to start a band?

Each of us always wanted to be in the best band of all time so we thought we'd just do it, ya know. We all grew up listening to Chili Peppers, Blur, Beatles and the likes, and each individually add our own unique aspect to Judas.

3. What do you want to achieve with Judas?

We don't want a day job. We all wanna have a great time and make great music that lives forever. (Boats and Hoes).

4. What influences your music?

We don't really have any singular influences. Our music is shaped by our experiences as a band and each of our songs vary greatly from each other with a common Judas spin.

5. What can we expect from Judas this year?

Memory Loss
