This week we caught up with Hucks, an unsigned band from London who formed in September of last year. Their first track, ‘Three Four Five’, an ethereal three minutes of pop bliss, has attracted some minor attention over on Twitter and SoundCloud, with early champions ranging from fellow London rockers Judas to TV personality Denise Van Outen. And no wonder, too – Hucks have combined the sweetest elements of dream-pop with effected guitars and a mellifluous vocal delivery, resulting in what must be considered a triumph for a band so early in their career. Here’s what they had to say. Introducing... Hucks.
1. Who are Hucks?
Hucks are five friends who were brought together by a shared ambition to make an imprint on the future of popular music. Each member has a different wealth of influences, and they combine to make a sound that we feel is unique to us.
2. What made you want to start a band?
We all have an individual love for music. Once we’d all met and realised that we all craved the same fix, it was only a matter of time until we started writing songs.
3. Who or what influences your music?
We’re inspired by every movement of pop culture, from the hippie era to punk and new wave. We each carry the weight of our own inspirations, with The Velvet Underground, The Flaming Lips and The Smiths being among our favourite bands.
4. What are you aiming to achieve?
As much as we can while we’re enjoying making music that we love. If we have a positive influence on the world’s musical landscape, creating songs that outlive our generation while being relevant to the moment we’re in right now, we’ll be happy.
5. What can we expect from Hucks?
Over the summer we’ll be putting on shows in London to master our live presence, and hopefully we’ll get back in the studio to work on some new music. We’re looking to constantly expand the sound to which we are defined.
