The Mono LPs - Emelia - Reviewed

The new Mono LPs track has a distinct rock and roll vibe. This is what the band do best, the crisp, clean, yet surprisingly heavy vibe of the single, ‘Emelia’, showcases just how good The Mono LPs are. The introduction serves to build atmosphere and proves why it’s such a good thing to have a cellist in your band.

The Mono LPs have produced a track that’s solid and beautifully put together, a master class in rock. The timing and emphasis are perfect. Ste Reis’s vocals and guitars give a stretched out blues feel to the music. The cello, played by Vicky Mutch, could easily get lost in the haze of guitar, bass and drums, but always seems to manage to push through, adding interest and class. ‘Emelia’ is moody, with just enough bite. Throughout the track, The Mono LPs don’t put a foot wrong. More rock than indie, ‘Emelia’ won’t be to everyone’s taste, as fashion often plays a big part in how music is perceived, but that makes it no poorer musically.

Having caught them live in the past, I can vouch for the fact that The Mono LPs are just as good outside the studio. The band are having a launch night on the 3rd of May at The Magnet in Liverpool. The event is in the form of a Masked Ball, with circus and burlesque performances in addition to the music on offer, so this is going to be a single launch to remember. If you like a bit of showmanship, and are in the area, the launch night should push all the right buttons. If you fancy something a little bluesy with a retro rock feel, you should really enjoy this track.
