Track of the Week #48 & 49 - Warmduscher - Gold Teeth

Warmduscher, the bastard offspring of the Fat White Family featuring Clams Baker on vocals, is the musical equivalent of Rosemary’s Baby. Taken from the recently released Khaki Tears album, ‘Gold Teeth’ is a glorious bad trip of a track, the cool, psychedelic bass line and drums laying down the foundation for the wonderfully sinister melee of sounds that hover over them, forming one of the best tracks Warmduscher have produced to date.

Following on from the excellent ‘Uncle Sleepover’ and ‘Johnny’s Blue Khaki’, ‘Gold Teeth’ is looser, yet more intriguing, a track that draws you into its own twisted universe. The video is a drug fuelled nightmare. Featuring the deceptively sweet-looking Jack Everett, and situated in what looks like Meatraffle’s back garden, the nightmarish visions, including a suitably sinister Saul, flow with the music. The repetition of the title, the only lyrics, adds to the spaced-out creativity, taking on a gravitas all of its own. Warmduscher have a twisted sophistication. They are innovative and contemporary, yet follow a long tradition of bands who retain a fine, if brutal, musicality within the elastic confines of experimentation. Personally, having listened to ‘Gold Teeth’ and the other fine tracks on the album ‘Khaki Tears’, I can’t wait to see what they manage to bring to the table next.
