We chatted with Manchester-based three-piece The Mantells this week. Inspired by the likes of fellow Mancs The Courteeners, the band released their latest single, 'Payday Playboys', on Monday. Here's what they had to say...
1. Who are The Mantells?
The Mantells are a three-piece band from Manchester made up of Tom Barrow on guitar and lead vocals joined by brothers Dale, who plays bass and Lewis Moran on the drums. We released our debut single 'Men in Suits' in December 2014 which made it into the iTunes alternative charts.
2. Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
Well I think one band we always agree on as taking influence from is The Courteeners, we love the way they sound, although we don't sound like them, we like a lot of different things that they do with their tracks.
3. How would you describe your sound?
I'd describe it as indie, i like to think we've got a bit of an upbeat sound, something you can dance to but at the same time have a decent think about the lyrics. Have a listen, judge for yourself.
4. Where do you see yourselves in five years time?
We'd love to be playing venues all over the country and maybe even the world, but it's impossible to say. If you'd have told us a year ago when we did our first gig that this time next year we'd be doing a gig with the Happy Monday's we would never have believed you, so who knows what's going to happen.
5. What's next for The Mantells?
Next on our to do list is release our single 'Payday Playboys'! It's out on Monday 1st June with a launch party at Night and Day Cafe on Saturday 6th June, then the week after we're playing the BL9 weekender and Blackthorn festival so they're our focus at the moment.
6. Where can hear more from/about you?
Well you can hear the single we released in December on iTunes and Spotify. You can also watch the music video on our YouTube channel, and you can join us on Facebook too.
