Introducing... The Fontaines

Introducing... Sheffield pop/junk/jungle outfit The Fontaines.

Your Coat

1. Who are The Fontaines?

The Fontaines are an Indie pop/funk/jungle band from Sheffield. We dance a lot and get very sweaty and cover ourselves in rave paint. There's four of us... Joe St Ledger is lead singer, Tom Nugent is the sexy bassist, Alex Tood is lead guitarist/lego Harry Potter and Oli Clark is our drummer and our favourite kleptomaniac. In other words, we're four 17 and 18 year old lads relentlessly gigging our lives away and trying to make music you can scream in the shower when you think no one else is home.

2. How would you describe your sound?

We are apparently somewhere between Little Comets, The Housemartins and The Ramones but I think we just aim for something punchy, powerful and with a bassline that could impregnate someone from a mile away.

3. You've recently released your new single 'Your Coat', tell us a little about the track?

Your Coat is a song written about when our lead singer went to a party with his mate and got rejected by a girl, so he tried to convince his mate to go home, but then the girl got upset about something so she went outside and then he walked out and put his coat round her. He still got rejected again, but it's the thought that counts right?

The Fontaines

4. Where do you see yourselves in five years time?

In five years time...well obviously the dream would be to be doing world tours, playing music to as many people as possible but probably in a bank. But hopefully we'll still be gigging our lives away and still have people listening to our music.

5. What's next for The Fontaines?

Well Joe and Ol are off to uni so things are gonna slow down a bit but we're just planning a tour for early next year and we'll hopefully just play everywhere we can. We've had a lot of interest in Canada and France so who knows?

6. Where can we hear/find out more from you?
