Introducing... Ceiling Demons

Ceiling Demons are an up and coming alternative hip-hop collective hailing from North Yorkshire. The trio consists of identical twin brothers MC’s Psy Ceiling and Dan Demon, along with producer George ‘Beat Demon’ Ruston. They seek to convey a message and capture the rawness of human emotion through riddles and rhymes, a technique which is certainly not common in the music industry and which is sure to soon propel Ceiling Demons in to the spotlight. The trio have played gigs supporting Sleaford Mods, Astronautalis, De La Soul, and, most notably, the acclaimed Mercury Prize winner Young Fathers. The increasing profile of the supporting slots and a brilliant festival appearance at Tramlines is testimony to the deserved growing popularity of Ceiling Demons.

Ceiling Demons are bringing the next generation of music to our speakers, conveying their own raw emotion in to every lyric and every note giving each one a sincere emotional meaning, which I feel is a much needed breath of fresh air from the mindless songs made by some artists these days.

Even If

The latest release from Ceiling Demons is a combination of almost choir-like lyrics and the edgy rapping of Psy and Dan, these two very different vocals come together perfectly in the track, ‘Even If'. The single was premiered during the groups set at Tramlines festival and, although it is available for free download on Soundcloud, it is due for official release on the 17th August, along with B-sides ‘The Quiet’ and ‘Feels Like Forever.’

Interview with Ceiling Demons

1. Where do you see yourself in five years time?

If we're not dead then we could literally be anywhere. We have ambition to push our music but we like to live by the ideology that the future is unwritten.

2. How would you describe your sound?

We tend to fall under the category of alternative hip-hop. We can come across as quite leftfield to some listeners however we do have strong indie and pop sensibilities within our sound. If Mike Skinner was raised as a Northern undertaker, you'd probably get something very close to us.

3. What's next for Ceiling Demons?

We're currently in the process of booking gigs and putting out our latest single 'Even If'. We're working on a couple of new things at the moment and are looking forward to releasing something fresh on FRUX Tapes - an alternative cassette tape label based in Durham, in the future.

4. Who or what was your main inspiration to starting making music?

Ceiling Demons was born from a dark period in our lives and the themes of death, loss and despair continue to inspire us to write. In terms of musical inspirations, artists such as The Streets, Roots Manuva and The Eels first influenced us to start making music.

Next show: Durham, UK - Empty Shop - August 15th 2015 (w/ Outside Your House & therunningchelsea)
