I chatted with Hinds this week, the chilled out, soft-pop/indie quartet from Madrid who're making a name for themselves over on English shores. Following their debut Glastonbury appearance earlier in the year, Hinds have revealed to us plans for their first album. But we'll let them tell you more...
1. Who are Hinds?
Hinds are 4 pals from Madrid that drink very fast.
2. For those who are yet to listen to yourselves, how would you describe your sound?
Our sound is messy and sincere... we really like it but that doesn't mean anything though hahaha.
3. You played Glastonbury earlier this year, how was that?
Has been one of the biggest experiences in our lives, seriously. It was ridiculously packed and people were clapping for ages in the end, we cried so bad hahaha.
4. The English music scene appears to have taken to you well, how does it feel to generate praise from abroad?
This is so abnormal for a Spanish band, we even had no idea it could happen before we had the band 'cause all the examples we had were pretty similar: first you get known in your city, then in Spain, and probably that's all... so giving our 4th gig ever in London was unbelievable, and the 5th one was in Berlin!! We still freak out about having been to 4 continents in one year hahaha, it feels so weird to do gigs in places you've hardly known about and suddenly the venue is sold out and everyone knows the songs and stuff like that..?? It's fucking mental!!!
5. Where do you see yourselves in five years time?
Hahaha that's such a difficult question, but for anyone!!! Even for my mom!! Life is full of surprises man! I just wish we're still doing music!
6. What made you start a band in the first place?
It... it was just us! We weren't musicians before, we were just huge music lovers and we were surrounded by friends in bands but we never like dreamed about having a band, we just didn't had the idea until we had it and we just did it hahaha. We just started to work very hard without a proper reason to do it, we were just loving it.
7. Who are Hinds' biggest influences and inspirations?
Our biggest influences right now are our own experiences hahaha but we really love everything the Black Lips do, and Fat White Family, and Juan Wauters, and Mac deMarco.
8. Where's your favourite place to play?
BENICASSIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. What's next for Hinds?
AN ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
