I had a thought this week, a thought about which track is my favourite of all time, and it's fair to say it was a tough decision. I've managed though to narrow it down to five, but would you agree? Let us know yours in the comments section below.
5. White Lies - Death
For myself, like many, 'Death' was the first track I heard from White Lies. I remember it clearly, it was mid-summer in 2011 and I managed to stumble across some highlights of Sziget festival whilst flicking through the channels on my Sky box. It was then, that lead singer Harry Mcveigh shouted "SZIGET!", before the London three-piece swiftly entered their most iconic track to date. Death manages to contrast fear and delight into a powerful and euphoric five minute masterpiece. It's a perfectly engineered piece of music, that builds and builds in intensity before it reaches its epic climax. I managed to catch White Lies back in 2012, and still to this day Death is one of the best, if not the best, track I've ever seen performed before my very eyes.
4. Spector - All The Sad Young Men
The most recent track on this list, 'All The Sad Young Men' was the first single from Spector's latest LP 'Moth Boys', released last Friday. Even in its youth, I strongly believe it is one of the best tracks I have ever listened to. It's a record that just creates a sense of appreciation, even though it is one of the most smooth sounding and perfectly contrasing, effortless-like single's you'll ever hear, you just know a lot of sleepless nights went into its production. Spector have strived to please, following the long wait for their follow up to debut album 'Enjoy It While It Lasts', and All The Sad Young Men truly epitomises this.
3. Jamie T - Sticks 'N' Stones
Jamie T, popular for causing a raucous wherever he goes, became a sensation when his huge hit 'Sticks 'N' Stones' dropped in 2009. Sticks 'N' Stones' is a charismatic middle finger up to modern day society by Treays. It's a track that whenever you hear it, you can't help but sing along no matter what. It is most definitely a record for any mood, whether you're up or you're down, you'll be bouncing both ways in no time.
2. Arcade Fire - Afterlife
The first of two Arcade Fire tracks in this list, 'Afterlife' was also the first that got me into the Canadians. Arcade Fire was a late find for me, but ever since I heard Afterlife, I've become the bands biggest fan. It is an explorative track by the Montreal outfit, quite dissimilar to anything the band has ever produced before, it is a constant flood of happiness, something that will always manage to put a smile on your face. I use the word euphoric a lot, but there's no other word that you can use to describe Afterlife other than truly, euphoric.
1. Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
'Rebellion (Lies)' by Arcade Fire, my most favourite track of all time. Taken from the bands debut album, 'Funeral', Rebellion is the finest single I have ever heard to date. It is one of those tracks that has not been over-produced, it has not been messed with, it just simply portrays the raw musical talent of the band playing it. It develops in maturity as the seconds go by, evolving from boy to man as Win Butler and co step into their stride, effortlessly producing the greatest single of the century to date. If it weren't for 'Wake Up', a track that is brilliant in its own right, Rebellion would without doubt be the defining sound of Arcade Fire, even though for myself, it already is.
