I spoke with Alfie Begley, the man behind Zones, this week. After releasing his new track 'Dawn Till Dusk', Begley is looking to kick-start his live career. Introducing... Zones.
Who is Zones?
Zones is the project of 19 year old songwriter Alfie Begley. I'm going to Uni in two weeks (Sheffield) so maybe I'll find some mates there to make it into a band. Although, loads of talented people play on my tracks, mostly singers and drummers so shout out to them.
How would you describe your sound?
Muscular riffs with a catchy chorus with (sometimes) some pretty subtlety.
You've recently released your new track, 'Dawn Till Dusk', how has the response been so far?
It's been good! It's definitely the best produced song as I asked a 'professional' (Tom - I thought the quotation marks necessary) and he's real good at what he does so it definitely helped. Also, the guy I recorded with, Cris, is a great engineer. People have said it's the best so far (it's the 1st single after my EP) and whilst I do think the song itself is something to be proud of I think the production and the use of a real kit not an electric one really helped to make it sound massive.
What's the aim?
Just to keep making good music and releasing it with cool artwork... I really wanna get a band going though as I don't get to play live too much as it is. We'll see where it goes after that, I don't expect anything much really.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I feel like there's a really funny answer to this question but I'm not gonna try, it won't work - hopefully I have a wider audience interested in the music I'm involved in making (people are already though, and I appreciate them taking the time to be interested).
What's next for Zones?
I have another single coming out this week I think and maybe one more if I get my act together before I leave on the 19th of September. Then maybe a band and then we'll see what happens.
