Who are the Dukes of New York?
Initially a duo, we've now added additional vocalists to become a foursome. We also play with additional musicians whilst recording and in some live situations. We play original songs inspired by our individual and collective experiences.
How would you describe your sound?
On the lighter side of rock, although it depends on what format we're playing in. We started as an acoustic duo and our sound naturally becomes more powerful when we play with a drummer as a full band. A few of our songs have ended-up with a slight country feel, which wasn't planned but has worked out well! We still play a lot of acoustic gigs, but playing as a foursome gives us a real depth of sound that you don't find elsewhere.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Queen, RHCP, Bowie, Kate Bush
What's the aim?
To be heard and leave a legacy.
What made you start making music?
We had played cover songs for a good while and wanted to do something different. We felt the need to prove to ourselves, and others, that we could create something fun and worth listening to.
Where do you see yourselves in five years time?
Telling Simon Cowell to leave us alone because we're too good for him!
What's next for the Dukes of New York?
Our single 'Nails' is due for release on 3rd October and we're working on a further two follow-up singles. And let's not forget the Christmas song we've got up our sleeves!
Where can we find out/hear more from you?
