Who are False Advertising?

We’re three friends based in Manchester who formed a band to distract ourselves from the everyday slog by filling our evenings with loud guitars and drums.

How would you describe your sound?

Our own brand of alternative pop, saturated in very fucking loud fuzz-noise and seen through the filter of our own DIY production styling.

You recently unveiled the video for your debut single 'Dozer', tell us a little about it?

New technology is a great leveller - we’ve all seen the quiet hysteria that a fresh craze like Tinder has brought to friends of ours. ‘Bandr’ started off as a band joke about what would happen if there was a similarly styled app for finding new band members in your city. The video tells the tumultuous story of what happens when our band starts using it, rendering members that make silly mistakes easily replaceable. It all ends up going a bit Sugababes.

It was also an idea that we could club together with limited resources, direct and produce all by ourselves with full control - if you pay close attention there are only two shots which show our full actual band in there, which is because one of us was always busy filming the others the whole time. We enlisted a cast made up of our friends in bands from around the Manchester scene (The Hyena Kill, Bad Grammar, Gold Jacks). Their payment came in the form of amber liquor refreshment… We had a blast.

Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?

We’ve been asked this a few times, and always cite different ones. The reality is we’re influenced by such a large pool of awesome music that we could go on naming bands forever. However, it tends to be the artists that have their own unique musical identity that endure most. Bjork, Beck, Radiohead, Kate Bush - Anyone who has what feels like a world of stuff for a listener to uncover.

What's the aim?

World domination obviously! Big dreams aside, we want to build False Advertising into a bigger and more powerful thing by gradually getting our music to as many people as possible. We’ve made a point of forcing ourselves to grow with everything we do by pushing ourselves, even when we recorded our album we were challenging ourselves to play parts that were beyond our skill level. There’s enjoyment in that.

What's next for False Advertising?

To push ourselves harder. We have lofty plans to release more music from this album, play many gigs, and we’re busy right now sorting out new material for our next thing which will hit in 2016 - which of course is currently too advanced for us to play yet again. It’s very exciting to hear what the band are becoming, we don’t want to get stuck in a rut, we’re way more interested in evolving like all the artists we most admire.
