Who are CHAPPO?
We are a rock band from NYC. None of us actually grew up here, but we met in Brooklyn and formed in 2009. Two of us are from Washington, one of us from Texas and one from Louisiana. Alex plays guitar and sings. Dave plays lead guitar. Chris plays bass and keys, and Zac plays drums.
How would you describe your sound?
Fucked up space pop.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Bob Ross episodes, $9 cabernet, an old repress of Tangerine Dream's Rubycon from the second-hand store, a newspaper, slowing falling into a nap on the couch with a yellow legal pad in your lap, and some home grown doodles.
Where do you see yourselves in five years time?
Well probably getting back from our 2nd trip from mars, futzing around on a new song idea in our massive art house studio. We'll be practicing for our arena tour with Bob Dylan. He'll have just recorded his final masterpiece and asked us to be his backing band but we also get to open for him. I know right! And all these cameos from all our favorite musicians. You bet your ass Bowie will be there. Donnovan, he shows up. John Lennon's hologram sings on a track.
You've recently released your new track, 'Hang On', tell us a little about it?
'Hang On' is about Rene Cogito who has left his wife at home as he travels alone to a blackhole in hopes to communicate with a parallel universe and save mankind. Stay in tuned for a 6 part stop motion mini series that tells more of the story. Also check out our video for Hang On which sort of tells the flipped perspective of the story. It asks, what would happen if a space traveler from another time crashed here on earth forced to spend his last hours of life wandering around NYC looking for a place to expire.
What's next for CHAPPO?
We're touring the UK for first time in 2016! Also, we just got back from doing some shows with the Flaming Lips and a lot of touring this year. Now we are writing our next EP. We can't wait to get back in the studio and record it when we have time!
